It sickens me to know that a person can willingly kill an innocent person, much less an innocent child. On Saturday, January 26 around 2.00 am, appr. twenty armed men broke into five homes in Lusignan, Guyana, murdering eleven innocent people. Five of those killed were children, the youngest being a four year old boy.
At least four police stations were called as soon as the first gunshots were heard, but they turned up an hour and a half late, afraid for their own lives.
The sick bastard behind it escaped from prison five years ago, and is already wanted for the murder of one of the few uncorrupted Ministers, Satyadeo Sawh, and two of his siblings. His pregnant girlfriend has been missing and he believes that the police kidnapped her to get to him. He threatened to create terror if she was not returned to him. He shot two police officers in a patrol car, then fired rounds at a police station in a drive-by shooting in broad daylight. Of course he wasn't caught before killing eleven innocent people. He's still at large.
The unbelievably insensitive newspaper, Kaieteur News, displayed graphic images of the dead victims on the front and center pages, so I'll link to another newspaper article from Guyana Chronicle:
[link] Images of the victims before this tragedy can be seen here:
[link]It is unbelievable that anyone can be capable of this. I have experienced the horror of being threatened with a gun but I cannot imagine the pain of surviving something like this, the pain of losing your loved ones, or the pain of watching your child lose his life before losing your own.
The images showed a mother shielding her son with her nightgown, a father sitting, lifeless, in front of the television, a little girl lying dead on her bed, a couple huddled together against a wall.
The Government had warnings. There were shootings before this. They couldn't catch a criminal who escaped
and stayed in this small country with a popluation of under 700 000. They
know where the criminals are being harboured. They
know that they are staying in a village called Buxton. But they do nothing to protect their citizens.
